Bad Decisions Hurt Hopes @ Tulsa Shootout
January 7th, 2010 in News. No Comments
The 8L team had big hopes for a strong run at The Tulsa Shootout. Laney would begin the week by drawing a 28 out of 84 entries for the line up of the heat races for Thursday . There were 11 heat races, and Laney started 3rd in the 3rd heat race. After taking the lead on the first green flag start, the yellow flag would come out a total of 3 times. They moved Laney to the outside pole (which is not where you wanted to start) to have the pole sitter right rear Laney out of the racing groove. Laney would drop back to 5th and race his way back to 3rd. The work would begin by needing to run 1 of 6 B mains. The team 2nd guessed all day Friday and Saturday on what set up to put under the car. The guess was wrong. Laney started 3rd in the 5th B main (needing to run 3rd to transfer) to find himself fighting a ill handling race car and finishing 9th. Laney kept his head high and we chalked it up to a lesson learned. There will always be next year!
Strong Run At Kemper Arena
December 20th, 2009 in News. No Comments
Last minute decision came just hours before loading up and heading for Kansas City, Mo. The 8L team just had the motor freshened and was putting it in the race car to get ready for the Tulsa Shootout. Thirteen top notch cars signed in to compete in the restrictor plate class. Laney started outside front row of his heat, and would set sail and win in dominating fashion. Laney would find himself starting on the pole in one of the biggest races of his career. Laney got out to a commanding lead and led the first 16 laps, then to find the caution coming out on lap 16. The A main was a short 20 laps. Laney would get a good restart to only find himself being tagged by the second place car and spinning around. Laney would restart 12th and wind up 7th in only 3 laps. The team is regrouping, and getting ready for the Tulsa Shootout.
